ROUND ONE - Saturday, May 5, 2007 - Rebels vs. Mississauga Demons
Result: Rebels defeat Demons

The Lakeshore Rebels took the field for the first time this season looking to take advantage of some of the young talent that has recently signed on with the club.  21 in all dressed and ready for battle in one of the leagues oldest and most established Footy clubs brought their “A” game to Humber College North.

Competing against The Mississauga Demons has always brought a challenge to the teams that are in search of a win, today the challenge was win the first game of the season and start strong against a league that has increased in level of play consistently over the past 5 years.

The weather was fair with a slight wind blowing from the east. The Rebels having superior numbers and always the sportsmanship side agreed to match the Demons side of 16. This was also a plus side for the Rebels as we had for the first time in many games a bench to pick from which allowed the new coach Monty to move players around the pitch. The Rebels came out strong with some decisive wins out of the middle from a tall and aggressive Drago that seemed to freeze in mid air like a 10’ Grizzley Bear. The ball was brought down to the screaming on ballers and moved up field. The Rebels came out of the 1st quarter with a slight lead over the Demons,

As the game went on the coaching staff was able to continue to move players around as Mississauga lost one to injury and the Rebels found themselves 1 man up. Even with a man down Mississauga threatened to take the lead throughout the game. Without some precise play from the mid fielders and forward line supporting the amazing play from our solid defense and Rookie player Chris Behe charging out of Full forward to take mark after mark the Rebels may have found the score to be different.

When the final horn was blown the Rebels with a tough fight battle after battle had won the game. What a great start to the season.

As a side note I must pay respect to the squad of 2006. With the hardships faced last year and even though the Rebels were thought to be a write off that squad came out and fought every game men down, fought every quarter when faced with a loss, and followed a very established coach, Nick Paps, who lead a committed team of 13 full time players. Nick you’re an inspiration to this club and I hope I can only do you justice throughout the season as your successor.
