ROUND ELEVEN - Thursday August 2nd  2007- Rebels vs. Hawks
Result: Rebels (2.2.14) def. by Hawks (9.8.63)

The Rebels traveled to Humber North this past Thursday for a re-match with a Hawks team that demolished the Rebs earlier this season. With a full side and a warm evening of footy ahead, the boys were keen to atone for their last encounter with the somewhat cocky Hawks.

The Rebels were buoyed by the return of Paps after his “Party like I’m in Ibiza” holiday and Connie and Libba playing their first games of the season. The first quarter was an even affair, with both midfields getting use of the ball. Sean (voldermort) Duffy was leading the way in the back line, shutting down the Hawks key forward and repelling many attacks At the end of the quarter it was clear this was not going to be a walk-over as some had expected.

The second began with the Rebs determined to fight like a bunch Tigers ready to maul a lazy Bear.  Species, Howie, Rock and Behie were again hitting everything in sight and continually frustrating their opponents.  Third gamer Al was finding his niche in the backline and Nacho “My scar does not look like Harry Potters”   was all over the field. The quarter saw a couple of injuries which would mean the boys had to finish the game without a bench.

On to the third and the Rebels were down by only a few goals. The Hawks got away with a couple of easy early ones but the boys kept pressing with Assistant coach Tammer leading the way, putting his body on the line at every contest.

The result was a foregone conclusion heading into to the last, but if Bobby has taught us anything this year, it’s too not taking anything for granted. The Rebels went down a man early as Tammer took one too many hits, but this only inspired the Rebels again as they produced their best quarter of the game. Kev Duffy managed to snag a goal from great efforts from Libba and Connie and Sean Duffy and Aaron were all over their opponents in Defence.

When the final siren sounded the Hawks had a solid win but it was definitely not handed to them. It was a great team effort and a huge building block for many players which will send the Rebels into the remainder of the season and on to next season full of confidence.

Next round the Rebels play the Dingo’s in what is always an entertaining game. Game starts at 12 noon at Humber North.
