ROUND TWO - Saturday, May 12th, 2007 - Rebels vs. Eagles
Result: Rebels: 3 - 2 - 20 def by Eagles: 10 - 18 - 78

The Rebels went into to Round 2 of the 2007 OAFL season full of promise after starting the season with a win against the Demons. Knowing this was going to be a tough battle against  last years premiers, several players were given roles to help the stem the effectiveness of some of the more prominent Eagle players.

The game was a tough battle from the first bounce and the midfield led by Drago and his roving Tigers were seeing plenty of the ball, unfortunately the boys could only post 1 goal in the first quarter and were down going into the second. The second quarter started and Rock in his second game of football was given the huge task of shadowing the Eagles best midfielder, this turned the game the Rebels way and after a couple of goals from the Captain and a strong overall quarter the Rebels found themselves only a couple of goals back going into the second half.

In the third quarter the Eagles realizing that the Rebels of 2007 were no push over put the foot down and showed why they are the reigning premiers. The ball spent a majority of the quarter in the Rebels backline, but the backs responded with some great pressure causing many shots at goal to only register 1 point.

The last quarter was much more even and once the again the Backlines led by Sean Duffy held strong and finished off the game as they started. The final score saw the Eagles run away by 58 points but the coaching staff was not at all disappointed with the effort. With many new players to the game on the roster this year this was a great learning experience playing against a well established team and there are already signs that the rebels will again be a formidable foe.

With the next two weeks off coach Monty asked for a big effort on the training track to be prepared for a much improved Blues team. Congratulations to Jeff Brand who was appointed Vice Captain during the week further solidifying the leadership group for 2007 and also a big well done to all our new players so far this season. It is great to see so many new enthusiastic faces and this year will no doubt be a great year for the club both on and off the field.
