ROUND SIX - Sunday, June 17th, 2007 - Rebels vs. Gargoyles - Guelph
Result: Rebels (5.6.36) def. by Gargoyles (10.11.71)

The Rebels traveled down the 401 and North to Guelph this Fathers day morning to play the always tough Gargoyles. Coach Monty had set a time for 7:30am to meet at Markham St in Toronto  due to the holiday and scheduling issues. With 17 strong all in a convoy the Rebels started towards Guelph and the hope for a winning day.

The first quarter started for both teams with a tough battle for the ball out of the middle and lots of good handballs and kicking. Mostly a defensive quarter for both sides the day was, as the coaching staff had told the boys, not going to be easy. Guelph came out hard and was dedicated to getting to the ball first. The quarter ended with the Rebels 2 points up on the Gargoyles.

The second saw the home side pick up the pace with good fitness and superior attack on the ball. The Rebels always the competitor kept up with the team and matched their play for the rest of the quarter.

The 3rd was the coming out quarter for the Rebels and half way through they were doing well with an advantage of 2 goals on the board. Just as the Rebels saw the lead go their way it was taken back by an attacking Australian side with the help of some undisciplined play on the Rebels side. The quarter ended with Guelph up by 18 points.

The 4th was all that was left between the Rebels being 3-2 and Guelph being 2-3. The quarter saw some amazing play from Fraser’s constant running all over the pitch, Fabs and the Middle played a tough quarter and the Defensive side was fighting for the ball all the way through. The forward lines with 5 of 6 players injured was not able to follow up on the great work from the attacking Rebels and with a heavy heart witnessed the Rebels drop their 3rd game of the season.

It’s important to keep in mind for all the Rebels supporters out there that we are still in a transition from the loss of core players over 2 years ago. We have a very talented and strong side consisting of over 25 active players. Injury coupled with Fathers day was the nail in the coffin this past weekend.

The Rebels still remain devoted, strong and excited for the rest of the season. We will get stronger, we will make a difference, and we will succeed in our ventures this season.
